Derrick House is a sophisticated 3-bed semi-detached residence in Beckenham, Greater London. The client envisioned a luxe home design that would elevate daily living, seamlessly blend social spaces, and bring the outdoors in—all while championing sustainable architecture. ARTES London was entrusted to reconfigure the ground floor, creating a fluid connection between kitchen, dining, and garden, tailored for modern family life and effortless entertaining.

ARCHITECTURE
Our approach as a leading British residential architect focused on maximizing spatial flow and natural light. By removing the dividing wall between dining and kitchen, we introduced an open-plan layout that enhances both form and function. The entrance lobby, once narrow, now feels expansive thanks to a statement mirror and elegant console table.
Bold features like a vibrant staircase carpet set against soft grey walls and crisp white timber, create visual interest, while the new glass doors and rooflights infuse the home with daylight, blurring boundaries between inside and out.

INTERIOR + FIT-OUT DESIGN
Every detail reflects ARTES London’s commitment to bespoke, wellness-oriented interiors. The home interiors come to life through the integration of natural materials, such as timber kitchen cabinetry, paired with warm grey tones for a calming atmosphere. The open-plan kitchen and dining area now flow effortlessly to the terrace and garden, inviting relaxation and connection with nature.
Custom bookshelves, geometric tile accents, and a harmonious palette of textures elevate the sense of luxury, while every space is designed to support comfort, sociability, and wellbeing.

SUSTAINABLE + ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
This eco-friendly renovation prioritized energy-efficient homes and environmental responsibility. Retrofitting the property allowed the family to enjoy enhanced comfort without relocation, reducing environmental impact. Natural illumination is maximized via new north-facing glass doors and dual rooflights, lowering reliance on artificial lighting.
Materials and finishes were chosen for durability and low environmental footprint, aligning with our sustainability ethos. Derrick House exemplifies how thoughtful design, and sustainable architecture can coexist beautifully in a London home.
